Rangers edge Hounds for 20th win

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds made it interesting, but Kitchener held on for a 5-4 victory in front of over 6,700 fans at The Aud on Sunday afternoon.

It marks win number 20 for the Rangers this season. Kitchener is now within two points of the first place Erie Otters.

Adam Mascherin continues to impress in his sophomore season, scoring what proved to be the game winner (12), plus picking up two assists on the afternoon.

Other Kitchener goals came from Jacob Cascagnette, Darby Llewellyn, Ryan MacInnis and David Miller. Luke Opilka stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced for his 15th win of the campaign.

“…It feels really good to be back in the line-up, my ankle feels good and I’m just really happy so far.” said Miller, who just returned after missing a few weeks with an ankle injury.

Rangers Head Coach Mike Van Ryn thinks his team got away from its defensive responsibilities at times: “There are times when I see flashes of it out there, but then we get away from it and start to cheat. You never slap two points in the face because they’re tough to come by, but we need to understand that it’s about more than just winning, it’s about becoming better…”

Kitchener’s next game is Friday at home to Ottawa. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.
