Kitchener couple glad to be back home after spending honeymoon in Paris

Some Kitchener newlyweds are relieved to be back in Waterloo Region after a scary day and a half in Paris.

Colleen and Daren James made the last-minute Parisian stop at the end of their two-week honeymoon.

Colleen tells 570 News they were having dinner on a boat on the Sienne River Friday night when they could see police cars everywhere.

She says that’s when “the nightmare started” and when they docked “it was sheer quiet.”

They made it to their locked hotel and then were kept in their room.

The couple credits social media for getting the word out to family and friends that they were okay and connecting them with information to register with the consulate.

They didn’t leave their hotel for the airport until daylight arrived.

Colleen said it was tough to get to the airport by taxi due to road blocks and their flight was delayed. She says security was intense.

They arrived home in Canada late Saturday night and are thankful to be home. She adds they do plan to return to Paris despite the attacks. James says “anything can happen anywhere… but as Canadians.. we would come together” like the French.

When asked if they would go back, James says, “that’s for sure.. it’s a beautiful city”.
