New route for Monday’s parade

It may be a new parade route, but Oktoberfest officials say there will be plenty of spectacular spots to watch Onkel Hans, Tante Frieda, and all your favourites at this Monday’s parade.

Executive Director of KW Oktoberfest Dave McNeil tells 570 News he has already picked out a perfect place to take it all in.

“I’ve gone out and driven the route several times. There are a lot of great new locations to watch the parade; I’m thinking as it turns on Victoria, it’s always neat watching a parade as it turns. Up by the train station there are some absolutely fabulous spots to watch it.”

With LRT construction taking place along King St, the parade will now make its way down Weber Street to Waterloo and pass under the GO train bridge.

McNeil says the bridge will not pose a problem for floats.

“Last year, the bridge was there, and that was the route we traveled our floats back to our Waterloo warehouse. We know everything fits under the bridge, we have no issues, and no worries there.”

McNeil adds this new route has a lot to offer spectators.

“It’s a nice big stretch of road; there are big medians to put your lawn chairs on. I’m confident, once everyone finds there new location, I think they will be pleasantly surprised.”

The parade gets underway at 8:30 Monday morning. This year’s Parade Marshal is Rogers Hometown Hockey Host Ron MacLean.
