Regional police set up policing plans for Oktoberfest while they investigate arrow death

Thousands from all over will visit our region for the annual Oktoberfest celebrations, and regional police are telling us to continue festing as usual while they investigate the death of Michael Gibbon.

The 60-year-old Kitchener man was found with an arrow in his chest.

Paramedics rushed Gibbon to hospital on Monday morning, where he died.

Police Chief Bryan Larkin says we can anticipate an increased police presence in the community as they search for answers.

“We do have a number of significant community events as we celebrate Oktoberfest this weekend, we have a policing plan in place for them. But the community can anticipate enhanced policing, and can anticipate an enhanced level of viability.”

He says they are working round-the-clock and are following up on all leads.

Larkin says “We’re also very confident that there is safety in numbers. We encourage people to come out and enjoy and live their life ongoing. But we do encourage people, if they see something, or if something feels different, call us.”

Anyone who has information is asked to call Police at 519-650-8500 ext. 8666 or Crimestoppers.
