Local university students will be hitting the books soon, but their football teams get an early start as the OUA season begins today.
At 1pm, Laurier plays at York. Waterloo is home to Guelph at 7pm.
The Golden Hawks earned a playoff berth after a 4 and 4 season in 2014. The Warriors finished 1 and 7.
Laurier head coach Michael Faulds tells 570 News he has a good mix of veteran players and rookies on his team.
“Getting Dillon Campbell back is fantastic, on the defensive side Kwaku Boateng, who’s a defensive end and as good as they come…and then we added some great young players in our recruiting class…”
Waterloo starts the season under new head coach Chris Bertoia, a former Warriors player, who won the Yates Cup twice.
