St. Mary’s receives big cheque for women’s cardiac care

The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic presented St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation with a cheque of more than $300,000 to support women’s heart health in the region.

It was the largest tournament donation ever made in one year, and puts the foundation at a total of $1.2-million.

President of St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation Peter Sweeney said this has been a big year for donations.

“A woman with heart issues was brought in and we treated her extremely quickly, she was patched up good as new. She’s now enjoying time with her grandchildren, and in response to that, her husband made a very sizable donation to St. Marys.
Sweeney said that the man’s donation was matched dollar-for-dollar by Manulife.

“The day isn’t just about raising money though, it’s about saving lives and giving people the opportunity to spend more time with their families,” added Sweeney.
