Cambridge’s Whitney McClintock golden again and sets Canadian record

Another successful day for Waterloo Region’s athletes at the Pan Am Games.

Water skier and Cambridge native Whitney McClintock won a gold and two silver to go along with the gold she captured on Wednesday. Her brother Jason also won a silver on Thursday.

In fact, Whitney’s gold set a new Pan Am record. It was our 65th gold, breaking the old mark of 64 set in Winnipeg in 1999.

Kitchener’s Dan Maclelland took gold in the doubles competition of tenpin bowling.

Our men’s basketball team beat Mexico 96-76, Kitchener’s Jamal Murray with 14 points in that one. They face the U-S in the semis at 6pm on Friday.

At 5pm, Waterloo’s Amanda Woodcroft and Brienne Stairs of Kitchener both have a shot at a bronze medal. Canada’s women’s field hockey team faces Chile.

Kitchener boxer Mandy Bujold will fight for gold on Saturday night.
