The City of Guelph has voted unanimously to approve food trucks in the city.
The new bylaw would allow food and ice cream trucks to operate on city roads and parks, just not the downtown core, except during farmers markets and special events.
Jakki Prince, Owner of Sweet Temptations Cupcakery says this is something that will greatly benefit local businesses.
“In Guelph, theres definitely restaurants interested in having food trucks of their own and they’re going to serve both. They’re going to achieve two objectives with their business, and that’s what we’re doing. You can have that experience of coming into the store or into that restaurant, and you can have that experience at a special event or celebration.”
Food trucks could start operating downtown more regularly after consultation with local businesses. That will be brought to council early next year.
