Victim expected to survive after Canada Day assault in downtown Kitchener

Waterloo Regional Police are releasing more information about an assault in downtown Kitchener late last night.

Police say just before 11, a 31-year-old Kitchener man suffered an injury from an edged weapon.

Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says the altercation took place in the area of King and Water and they are monitoring the man’s condition.

“We’re working with the hospital right now and keeping up to date with the latest, and at this point, we believe the man is expected to survive.”

Police say they do not believe this was a random attack and are looking into the possibly he had come in contact earlier with the assailant or assailants at a local bar.

Police are also asking for any witnesses to contact them.
