Man missing in Ottawa may be suspect in cellphone murder

Police are trying to determine if a man believed to have drowned in the Rideau River in Ottawa is the same one wanted in the murder of a Brampton teen.

Muhab Sultanaly Sulton, 23, is wanted in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jeremy Cook.

Cook was shot to death trying to track down his lost cellphone in London, Ont. almost two weeks ago.

Police in Ottawa said a man tried to swim across the river on Wednesday afternoon after allegedly hitting two police officers on bikes with his car.

The two officers jumped in to try to rescue the man after seeing that he was running into trouble. They weren’t able to rescue him and no body has been recovered.

Police are continuing their search.

London police are also looking for a second suspect in the case.
