Celebrating suds during Ontario Craft Beer Week

A launch party tonight at Steam Whistle is the opening to Ontario Craft Beer Week running from June 12 – June 21.

The week is a celebration of everything craft beer in our province; the culture, the beer and the people.

Breweries across the region, and many restaurants, like The Lancaster Smoke House, The Museum, The Boathouse, The Woolwich Arrow and The Cambridge Hotel & Conference Centre are all taking part.

Darren Smith, with the Ontario Craft Brewers Association says they have over 200 events booked.

“That’s everything from LCBO tastings to tap takeovers, cask nights, collaborative events between breweries, beer and food pairings, basically anything you can imagine and anywhere in the province, there is something going on this week,” says Smith.

Brewers are debuting their first ever collaboration beer. More than 25 OCB member breweries put their minds together and came up with a Belgian Style Table Beer.

“It’s relatively low alcohol, in the three per cent ranger, but it still has a lot of flavour to it,” says Smith. “We decided on that as just an interesting style to showcase how flavourful beers and unique beers don’t necessarily need to be really “boozy”, they can in fact be really balanced and drinkable but still have a lot to them.”

Proceeds of the, “OCB Collab 2015” – which is being shipped out across the province – and the brewers’ launch party are going to the Ontario Association of Food Banks.
