Online petition started, asking the officer involved in Beau Baker’s shooting be taken off active duty

Friends and family of Beau Baker, a 20-year-old man who was fatally shot by regional police in April, have started a petition asking the officer involved be taken off “active duty”.

Executive Officer, Mike Haffner says the petition didn’t spur a response from the police service, but there may be some misunderstanding within the community about the officers current duties.

“The words active duty may have been misperceived or miscommunicated originally. The officer involved in the incident, however remains on active duty, has not been assigned to front-line-policing since the incident.”

So far the online petition has 158 supporters.

The SIU continues to investigate.
