Several hundred trees coming down in Cambridge due to Emerald Ash Borer

Several hundred trees will be coming down in Cambridge to help fight the Emerald Ash Borer.

The pesky bug is known for attacking trees making them rot and die off.

The city has budgeted $500,000 to help combat infestation.

“It quickly spreads and it attacks only ash species” says Brian Geertz, Manager of Forestry and Horticulture. “Not Mountain Ash, but other ash trees. Doesn’t affect Maples or Oaks or anything else, but it attacks and kills ash trees.”

Among the locations where trees will come down is Langdon Drive just up the road from Langdon Hall.

The city says 7% of all street trees in Cambridge, which are the highest risk areas, are ash trees.

No set timeline has been given for when trees will start to come down.
