Damages estimated over $1 million after fire at retirement home in Waterloo

Damages are estimated at over $1 million dollars after a fire at a retirement home on Laurelwood Drive in Waterloo.

Three stations responded to the call at “The Court at Laurelwood” just before 9:30 Sunday night.

The fire originated in a unit on the third floor and was contained to that unit by the sprinkler system.

Acting Platoon Chief Earl Reitzel tells 570 News that the people in the unit were evacuated safely and no one was injured.

Reizel says that most of the damage was contained to the room however, because of the smoke and water from the sprinklers, there was more damage to other areas of the building.

Investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause.
