Ont.’s Ombudsman concerned about closed door budget meetings in Waterloo

A brewing controversy in the City of Waterloo over some budget-related meetings being held closed doors, has caught the attention of Ontario’s Ombudsman.

Mayor Dave Jaworky is defending the practice. He tells The Record it improves efficiency and they want to make sure that all budget questions get answered.

Councillors have been instructed to have private sit downs with staff members to get their questions answered.

Councillor Bob Mavin is livid about that and he says he’s also facing roadblocks when it comes to getting questions answered by staff.

So, he filed a Freedom of Information request to get his questions answered.

As for the Ombudsman,  he took to Twitter to share his views.

“Um, no. U can’t play municipal music chairs 2 get around the law. What’s happening here is called “serial” mtgs.”  @Ont_Ombudsman
