Man rescued from icy waters after trying to save his dog

It’s a reminder about the dangers of ice after a man had to be rescued from icy waters after trying to save his dog.
Regional Police say a man and woman were walking their dogs around 8:30 this morning in the area of Snyders Flats just west of Bloomingdale.
At that time, one dog ran out onto the ice, broke through and fell in. The man went after his dog, and was able to save him, but fell into the water in the process.
After about ten minutes in the water the woman he was with contacted emergency services. Police arrived on scene, just as the man was pulling himself out of the water.
The man was treated on scene and was later taken to Grand River Hospital for further monitoring.
