Taylor Swift tops Canadian iTunes chart with eight seconds of white noise

TORONTO – Nevermind pop, Taylor Swift conquered the Canadian chart Tuesday with what amounted to a short crackle.
An eight-second clip of white noise erroneously released and attributed to the singer held the top spot on the Canadian iTunes chart as of noon on Tuesday.
The snippet was listed as “Track 3” on the Nashville singer’s hotly anticipated full-pop makeover “1989.”
The No. 2 and 3 singles on the chart were also culled from that record: “Welcome to New York” and “Shake It Off.”
A representative for Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
“1989” will be released Monday, expected to be the first blockbuster album of a year that has thus far not yielded a single platinum-selling hit.
First single “Shake It Off” has already topped the chart in the U.S. and Canada.
