Waterloo – Canada’s most attractive city for newcomers

Waterloo is Canada’s most attractive city for newcomers according to a report from The Conference Board of Canada.

The report analyzes and benchmarks the features that make cities attractive to newcomers. The 43 indicators are then grouped into seven categories: Society, Health, Economy, Environment, Education, Innovation, and Housing.

Waterloo is first when it comes to education and second in innovation and placed third in the economy category. However, the city received a “D” in health.

“Despite being one of the smallest cities in our ranking, Waterloo shines as one of the top destinations for migrants. This isn’t surprising given Waterloo’s reputation for innovation and education,” said Alan Arcand, Centre for Municipal Studies.

Kitchener and Guelph received an overall “C” ranking, Cambridge earned a “D.”

Out of 50 cities, Kitchener placed 18th, Guelph came in 25th and Cambridge was placed second last at 49th place.

Other cities getting an “A” grade included Richmond hill, Ottawa and Calgary.
