OPP probe fatal shooting near Clinton

Police in southwest Ontario say they’ve made no arrests in the fatal shooting of a man in a rural area near the community of Clinton.

But they say there is no threat to public safety, though they expect officers to be in the area for some time.

Police say the man was shot Saturday afternoon, prompting fear and confusion amongst residents in the area.

Some residents and some media outlets reported that homeowners were ordered to stay inside with their doors locked, but both police and municipal officials say that was never the case.

To add to the confusion a siren went off in Clinton, but Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn says it was connected to an unrelated fire.

He says some residents took it as a signal to remain indoors.

Residents say there was a heavy police presence in the area all day but some expressed frustration with a lack of information from authorities.
