Goaltender Benigno commits to Rangers

Kitchener Rangers draft pick Izzy Benigno has committed to the team and signed an OHL standard player agreement. Rangers general manager Murray Hiebert made the announcement Wednesday morning.

Rangers scouts tout Benigno, the Rangers’ 11th round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, as an agile goaltender with good athleticism.

The Maple, ON native backstopped the Toronto Young Nationals to a Great Toronto Hockey League championship title in 2013-14, as well as the All-Ontario (OHF) Midget championship title.

Benigno appeared in six games at the 2014 Telus Cup, helping the Nationals to a fourth place finish.
