Child dead, up to 100 people homeless after massive Brampton townhouse fire

A 10-year-old boy has died after a fire tore through a townhouse complex on Ardglen Drive early Sunday morning, police confirm.

The boy was having a sleepover visit away from his own home, which police believe to be near by, said Peel Regional Police Const. Lily Fitzpatrick.

As many as 100 people are homeless and hundreds have been evacuated.

Fitzpatrick said 18 units were “profoundly destroyed” in the blaze.

Fire broke out just after 3 a.m. in the complex in the Queen Street and Kennedy Road area.

The fire has been knocked down, but it is still active in some spots and crews remain on the scene.

Police say it could be a day or two before residents are allowed to return home.
