The City of Waterloo announces new chief of Waterloo Fire Rescue

Richard Hepditch has been named the new chief of the Waterloo Fire Rescue.

He was previously a Deputy Fire Chief responsible for support services but has held many positions during his 17 year tenure, including acting captain, and community emergency management coordinator.

The City of Waterloo says that Hepditch provided corporate and strategic leadership to the divisions of fire prevention, public education, mechanical and emergency management. They say he has been responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of the master fire plan and Waterloo’s adoption of Ontario’s Incident Management System.

His work doesn’t stop with the City of Waterloo. Hepditch is also a lead instructor for Dalhousie University’s Fire Service Leadership program. He has also taught at Conestoga College’s Pre-Service Firefighter program for more than 10 years.

Hepditch already holds certificates from Conestoga College, Dalhousie University, and the Canadian Labour Congress and in 2015 will have his Master of Arts degree in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University’s School of Peace and Conflict Management.
