Dr. Nolan shares ‘back to Boston’ experience

An emotional year for those participating in the Boston Marathon – one year after bombs killed three people and wounded 260 others.

Waterloo Region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Liana Nolan was there last year – cheering on her friend when the bombs went off.

Both returned this year – and Nolan stood in the same spot as last year, about one KM from the finish line.

“And cheered for our friend who ran it last year and it was very exciting and there were a lot of people crying. We were just before the last turn, a kilometer from the finish and a lot of people as they were coming around the corner were crying as a lot of folks wouldn’t have finished last year, they would have been stopped.”

Nolan says “they had to go back and support the people of Boston, the runners and the survivors.”

She adds “it was very emotional, it was a beautiful day and ended the way it should.”

She tells 570 news that she is hoping to run the race herself next year.
