A hockey game gone wrong was quickly turned around by an automated external defibrillator or AED.
A 67-year-old man was playing the game in the Pillars Rink at RIM Park when he became unconscious, stopped breathing and did not have a pulse.
Fellow players and RIM Park staff quickly performed CPR on the patient and used one of the AEDs located in the facility.
When emergency services arrived on scene the man regained consciousness and was sent to St. Mary’s Hospital for follow-up medical treatment.
Waterloo Fire Rescue says the quick actions of staff and the device saved the man’s life.
RIM Park has used their AED’s on four other occasions.
