LRT Petition

On the same day Regional council votes in favour of approving the $64 million purchase of light rail vehicles, one Waterloo resident is joining the fight to put a stop to the project.

Ted Livingston, CEO of KIK Messenger has a started a petition calling for an end to the project. He tells 570’s Gary Doyle show the money could be better spent, “So we’re just going to spend $800 million dollars for glorified buses that aren’t going to solve any of our problems. Commuters are still going to hate taking the transit and drivers are still going to get in their cars, so we need to step back and say what are we doing?”

Livingston says he photoshopped wheels onto a photo of the train and says it looks just like a bus, which won’t appeal to the current non-transit user.

“I think the thing we need to be focusing on is, not how do we provide more options for transit, but how do we minimize the need for transit as Waterloo grows. And the way that we do that is walking. And the thing that’s amazing about Toronto is not that they have a subway, that they have a bus, that they have a streetcar, but that you can walk everywhere.”

No word how many signature Livingston hopes to get.
