Red Day Friday @ Manulife Financial LPGA Classic

Spectators heading to the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic on Friday are being asked to wear red.

Red Day will support women’s heart health and the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation. St. Mary’s says heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in this country.

“People might be familiar with whiteouts at hockey games and we’re hoping to do the same for the first time at a golf tournament.” said Peter Sweeney, President of the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation.

Last year, the foundation was presented with $250,000 in proceeds from the tournament.

Sweeney says that money helped the hospital purchase a new diagnostic camera for heart disease.

Defending champ, Brittany Lang was at the hospital last month to see the camera and visit with some patients.

The first 1,000 people through the gates each day will also be given pedometers as a way to keep active and take their first steps towards cardiac health.
