Kitchener man appears ‘briefly’ in court

It was a very brief appearance in Provincial Court Wednesday for 25 year old James Parise of Kitchener.

Parise is facing charges of second degree murder in the disappearance of Catherine Todd.

However, he was not read his charges during the court appearance, and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance on May 1st.

Regional Police say Parise was arrested and charged Tuesday in Stratford as he exited a vehicle.

No word if that vehicle is the same as a pick-up truck that a forensic team is examining.

Police say they don’t expect to make any other arrests in connection with this case.

Todd, 48, was last seen at her apartment on Lorraine Avenue in Kitchener on Monday, March 18th.

She was reported missing that Thursday, and police say a pick-up truck was seen leaving her apartment either Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

A love-seat was also missing from her home, and police continue to search the Waterloo Region landfill site on Erb Street.

Inspector Kevin Thaler tells 570 News they have narrowed to search to one specific area of the landfill.

Thaler says the victim and Parise were known to each other.

Police are still asking anyone with information to contact the Homicide Branch or CrimeStoppers.
