Waterloo fire damages five businesses

Fire officials have completed the on scene portion of their investigation into a fire that broke out in Waterloo.

Just after 8 o’clock last on Friday, Regional police and fire crews responded to a blaze in a strip mall at 655 Erb Street West.

The building was evacuated and there were no reported injuries.

Waterloo platoon chief Ken Lumgair tells 570 News the fire did not structurally damage the building.

He says the entire contents of the Kiddie Kobbler store were destroyed and the surrounding businesses suffered severe smoke damage and some had water damage as well.

Regional police have completed their part in the investigation, and the fire has been deemed as not suspicious.

Five of the businesses were affected and the damage estimate is pegged at 750 thousand dollars.

The Fire Marshal’s office has been notified because of the extensive damage.
