Open/Closed on Family Day

Family Day is Monday, February 18th, which means disruptions for many local services.
-The major malls are all closed Monday, including Cambridge Centre, Fairview Park and Conestoga Malls.
-If you are looking for a shopping fix, most businesses in the Village of St. Jacobs are open Family Day. For more information click HERE.
-All Beer Stores are closed Monday as are almost all LCBO stores, other than some locally-owned agency stores.
-There is no change in trash pick up. If Monday is your day, make sure it is out at the curb early.
-Grand River Transit is operating Family Day, albeit it on a Sunday schedule. For more information click HERE.
Municipal services:
-Kitchener City Hall is closed Monday and services offered by City Hall staff will resume on Tuesday. All Kitchener Public Library locations are closed. For the full list click HERE.

A few free (or almost free) Family Day events!
– Kitchener’s Steckle Heritage Farm is hosting their family day event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The K-W Sunshine Foundation will be running games and accepting entries for their snow sculpture contest.
– Celebrate Black History Month by stopping by the Bring on the Sunshine African Festival today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Forest Hill United Church. Experience African culture through music, food and performances, and there are kid’s activities too! Admission is by donation.
-The Ice Dogs Festival continues today from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Uptown Waterloo. Just a few of the things to do include an interactive ice slide for kids, guided walks, see the ice sculptures in Waterloo Public Square or snap a picture beside the special 10th anniversary dog sled team made out of ice.
-Blackberry is sponsoring a number of free swimming and skating events at different facilities including the Rec, RIM Park and the Aud. To find out the times, call the facility for details.
– Woodside National Historic Site is opening up today for the first time in 18 months. Between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. you can experience one of the last guided tours at William Lyon Mackenzie King’s childhood home. Admission is free.
