Kitchener standoff tied to robbery investigation in Hamilton

Numerous people are facing charges following a standoff, Tuesday morning at a residence on Weber Street East in Kitchener.

Waterloo Regional Police were contacted by Hamilton Police to assist in an investigation connected to an robbery in that city.

The investigation into the robbery had led officers to Waterloo Region.

Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel tells 570 News WRPS officers from all different branches were called in to assist and they did so by containing a residence on Weber St. East.

Reports say a 25-year-old man arranged to meet a female acquaintance at a hotel in Hamilton yesterday morning and was confronted by two men, one with a gun and the other a knife.

The suspects took the victim’s wallet, cellphone and vehicle and then fled to Waterloo Region.

Police were able to enter the house Tuesday afternoon after obtaining a warrant.
Several people were arrested and are now being held for questioning.

A section of Weber St. East was closed off to traffic for several hours so police could conduct their investigation.
