Teens for Jeans

Last year the community’s generosity helped gather 1,001 pairs of jeans for those in need within our community. This year, the ‘Teens for Jeans’ campaign hopes to surpass that mark.

Organizer and store manage at the Aeropostale at Conestoga Mall Nancy Zajac says Aero and an organization called ‘Do-Something dot org’ teamed up six years ago to start the campaign, “Our goal this year is 1,200 pairs. I want to see us hit that this year because then we can help multiple agencies locally. Last year we helped five different agencies and I want to be able to do that again just because it is so cold.”

‘Teens for Jeans’ encourages people to donate any size, style or brand of jeans and those agencies which benefited last year – Woolwich Community Services, House of Friendship, Roof, Mary’s Place and Anselma House.

Donations will be collected at a few local Junior ‘B’ hockey games beginning today at 2 p.m. when the Elmira Sugar Kings host the Waterloo Siskins at the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena. Zajac says word of mouth has helped immensely, “It’s the involvement of multiple businesses and especially the Junior ‘B’ hockey teams. Last year I reached out and I did two games, this year we’re doing seven.”

If you can’t make it out to watch the Sugar Kings and Siskins, the Kitchener Dutchmen host the Brampton Bombers at the Kinsmen Centre at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, and if you can’t make it out to a game at all, the Aeropostale store at Conestoga Mall is accepting donations as well.

There are a number of G-O-J-H-L games that will be accepting donations over the next couple of weeks including:
