Region’s Elementary Teachers Set to Strike

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has told the board its members will participate in the one day strike.

The board’s Superintendent of Human Resources Mark Schinkel tells 570 News all 104 of the board’s elementary schools will be closed Tuesday as a result.

Schinkel says the closure includes the board-operated child care programs.

As for child care operated by a third party — like the YWCA — Schinkel says parents will have to contact the operator to find out whether services will be open.

He says there won’t be any transportation that day either.

Schinkel says the board decided to close the schools out of concern for student safety.

He says everything will be back to normal Wednesday.
