Questions On Hwy 7/8 Expansion Go Unanswered

The proposed expansion of Highway 7/8 between New Hamburg and Stratford is once again on the back burner after the provincial Liberals prorogued parliament last week.

Kitchener-Conestoga Conservative MPP Michael Harris says residents and businesses now have no way of getting answers to the numerous questions still left unanswered from the Ministry of Transportation.

Harris tells 570 News with province in massive debt, it needs to prioritize projects and the 7/8 expansion right now is just becoming another way of wasting money.

Harris says the total cost of the project and the proposed route are all still up in the air. He says uncertainty from the Ministry is causing concern for residents and local businesses, because interchanges keep moving and could even take out soccer fields at the Wilmot Recreation Complex at Nafziger Road.

The expansion project will also be addressed at regional council this week…

Traffic projections studies show in 20 years time the current 2-lane version of the highway will be unable to handle the amount of traffic on the 7/8 stretch from Stratford to Kitchener.
