Passengers call it VIA Fail

VIA Rail is taking some flack over track maintenance it did over the long weekend between Toronto and Windsor.

Some passengers say that forced them to take the bus to instead of the train, but at the same cost.

CBC reports several trains were affected, including one Dylan Lamovsek – a university student – planned to take to Windsor.

He says he bought his ticket three weeks ago, but was not told in advance of the change and still had to pay $80 for the trip – the price of a train ticket.

He says he takes the train because it is faster, has WiFi and ports for his computer.
He says the bus has none of that.

VIA says it notified passengers of the changes on its website, but it appears, many did not check the website.

Passengers who paid for the train but ended up on the bus will receive a rebate on their next train trip.
