Guelph runner in semis

Residents of Guelph will be watching the Olympics closely on Wednesday afternoon.

Hilary Stellingwerff has made it to the semi-finals in the women’s 1500m.

The first time Olympian qualified with a time of 4:05.79 on Monday morning.

The 30-year-old from Sarnia trains at the Speed River Track and Field Club
in Guelph.

“It was a great experience walking into the Olympic stadium…Even with all the people, I could still pick out all the Canadian flags.” said Stellingwerff.

She tells 570 News the race was rough as there was a lot of pushing and shoving, adding she did what she had to do and is happy with the result.

How will she prepare for the semis? “Just focus on recovery and not think about the race until the day of.”

The women’s 1500m semi-finals are set to start at 2:45pm Eastern Time on Wednesday.
