Twitter talk surrounds return of Canadian TV series ‘Slings and Arrows’

TORONTO – There’s talk of bringing back the beloved Canadian TV dramedy “Slings and Arrows.”

A Twitter account apparently belonging to the show’s co-creator Bob Martin says he’s been musing on what a fourth season might look like, tweeting: “Slings may live again.”

Using the Twitter handle @drstorper — a reference to his alter ego as a therapist on the recently cancelled CBC sitcom “Michael Tuesdays and Thursdays” — Martin says “recently we have been meeting and thinking.”

The brief comments were in response to tweeted queries from blogger Jonathan Mandell, who uses the Twitter handle @NewYorkTheater.

“Slings and Arrows” starred Paul Gross as the artistic director of a struggling Shakespeare theatre company and featured a who’s who of Canadian stars including William Hutt, Sarah Polley, Mark McKinney, Don McKellar and Rachel McAdams.

It first aired in 2003 on Canada’s premium channels “The Movie Network” and “Movie Central” before going on to find a dedicated following in the United States.

Martin says talk has centred on setting a new batch of episodes around a production of “Richard III.”

“Is there a timetable, or (is it) more like a dream?” Mandell asked in a tweet posted June 3.

“Well, it’s more than a dream, I’ll tell you that much. I’ll stop now, before I’m hoisted by my own petard,” Martin responds.

The following day, however, Martin seemed to quell the speculation.

“Don’t drink and tweet, clearly,” he tweeted.
