NDP calls for cycling strategy

The provincial NDP transit critic is questioning the premier on cycling safety, following the death of a Waterloo cyclist.

Davenport MPP Jonah Schein is asking why the province’s cycling strategy has been sitting on a shelf while cyclists are being killed and injured on the roads.

Schein says the province’s cycling policy is 20 years out of date.

“We are talking about bike lanes and bike paths…Safety education training for cyclists and drivers.” Schein told 570 News .

52 year old Barrie Conrod died Sunday after he was struck from behind by an SUV.

A bike ride in his memory will be held this weekend.

The ride will take place Sunday afternoon, starting at 3 o’clock at Countryside Mennonite Church on Herrgott Road in Wellesley Township.
