CIGI fellow weighs in on Gadhafi Capture

An expert at a globally-minded local think-tank is saying the capture and death of Moammar Gadhafi allows the transitional Libyan government to carry on with the business of governing.

Senior CIGI Fellow, Dr. Bessma Momani told 570 News it has a lot of symbolic value, “but in real politique, it finally confirms that the old regime is done and the new regime can resume the business of governing.”

Momani believes the fact Gadhafi is dead will not have a negative impact on the global community, as Gadhafi doesn’t have many friends in Libya and around the world, “his death is probably going to make things a lot easier, as cruel as that sounds, only because it means it doesn’t have to drag on the process as we’ve seen in other countries,” Momani said, referring to nations where their captured ex-leader is kept alive for trial.
