A tragic loss

Kitchener-Conestoga MP Harold Albrecht’s wife, Betty Albrecht, has passed away.

Albrecht died Wednesday, at Hamilton General Hospital after suffering a spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage at home on the night of the election.

She was 59 years-old.

Spokesperson David Drewe tells 570 News it all happened so suddenly, because Betty had complained of having a bad headache.

He says the community response has been greatly appreciated as the family has received thousands of messages and emails of support.

The following is a statement from the Hon. Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge-North Dumfries:

“My wife, Valerie, and I were deeply saddened to learn that our dear friend, Betty Albrecht, beloved wife of MP Harold Albrecht, passed away (on Wednesday).

“Betty always put others first and was a source of joy to everyone who knew her.  She touched our hearts and we will miss her greatly.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Harold and his family.”

The family has asked for quiet time to heal in privacy.

Visitations will be held at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home located at 291 Huron Street in New Hamburg on Friday, May 6th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.  As well as on Saturday, May 7th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

The funeral will be held at Community Christian Reformed Church located at 1275 Bleams Road in Kitchener at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 8th.

Donations are welcomed in her memory to the Mennonite Central Committee – Ontario, Brethren in Christ World Missions, or the Scholarship Program for International Children’s Education (SPICE).
