Regional Police say a teenager has been charged with drunk driving for a crash that claimed the life of another teen.
On October 22nd, at about 10:30 p.m., a black pickup truck heading up Barnswallow Drive in Elmira went off the road around Aspen Crescent.
The truck hit a vehicle parked in a driveway.
The 18-year old in the black truck, Miles Hamilton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year old driver suffered life threatening injuries.
That driver has now been charged with impaired driving causing death; operation with over 80 mgs. of alcohol causing death; dangerous operation causing death; and possession of a controlled substance.
Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel tells 570 News the teen’s death was a tragic loss, but it’s also tragic another teen has to face charges like this.
He says he hopes those charges will send a message to everyone about not drinking and driving, especially during March Break and with St. Patrick’s Day coming up.
The unidentified teen next appears in court, April 21.
