Expert says Rogers leads the pack of suitors for the Leafs

A leading sports business and marketing expert says despite a report to the contrary, Rogers Communications leads the pack of suitors to purchase the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Brian Cooper, former president of the Toronto Argonauts, now advises corporate clients on sports sponsorship. He tells 570 News, acquiring the Leafs was part of the late Ted Rogers’ long-term business plan.

Cooper says industry insiders have told him that Rogers Communications was involved in conversations with current majority owner, the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, as recently as six weeks ago. He says there was “keen interest” in buying the Maple Leafs.
