Two arrests made in auto crime crackdown

Police have made two arrests in connection with a six-month investigation into auto thefts.

A 27 year old Hamilton man is facing 30 counts of theft over five thousand dollars and possession of stolen property and a 26 year old Oshweken man is facing one count of each charge.

Regional police and several other forces in Southern Ontario executed raids in seven cities, including Waterloo.

They seized 24 whole or partially disassembled vehicles and expect to recover more stolen property.

Police say the auto crime industry in Canada is worth 600 million dollars a year.
