UW Federation of Students weighs in

The University of Waterloo’s “Federation of Students” has weighed in on the steroid scandal currently engulfing the school’s football program.
The University of Waterloo announced a one-year suspension of the varsity football program as a result of an ongoing investigation into the use of banned substances by select members of the team. On Thursday morning – the Federation released a statement.
“The Federation of Students is strongly opposed to the decision made by the university in this matter,” stated Bradley Moggach, President of the Federation of Students. “We have deep concerns for the lack of student consultation in arriving at this decision, as well as the lasting impacts this could have on the football program.”
The suspension will affect all team members, regardless of their involvement in banned substance abuse. “It is disappointing to witness an institute of higher learning using collective punishment to deal with this issue,” continued Moggach. “A majority of players on the team were not found to have engaged in the use of banned substances and yet these players will suffer the same result as those who did.”
“The Federation of Students” is calling on the university to step back from the announced suspension of the football program and to engage in consultation with the football players and Federation of Students Executive in order to work towards a mutually agreeable solution to this issue.
The football players will be hosting a press conference to voice their concerns today on the University of Waterloo campus in gymnasium 2 at the Columbia Ice Fields (CIF) at noon.

“The Federation of Students” exists to serve, empower and represent the 24,000 undergraduate students at the University of Waterloo.
