City of Kitchener backs Ellen campaign

With over 26,000 facebook members now friends of the “Ellen DeGeneres for Parade Marshall of 2010 K-W Oktoberfest Parade” page – the City of Kitchener is joining in the fun.

The city has a posting on its facebook page inviting anyone and everyone to join in a Mass Chicken Dance at Kitchener City Hall next Thursday.

The following is an excerpt from the event’s description.

We’ve talked about it…we imagined what it would be like and now….it will be a reality! The faithful fans of this page are the first to know ….

WHAT: Mass Chicken Dance in Support of Ellen DeGeneres for Parade Marshall of the 2010 Oktoberfest Parade

WHEN: Thursday, June 24, 2010 – 6 to 7 p.m. ( This event will go rain or shine, but will be cancelled if there are severe thunderstorms)

WHERE: In front of Kitchener City Hall

WHO: Some of the special guests include: The Monkey Vault Stunt Team, Onkel Hans, Mike Fischer on the accordion, local Bavarian Dance Groups, the now famous Lion’s Club Lion float and the new beaver float…and much more!

WHAT TO BRING: A camera, video camera, homemade signs and messages to Ellen, Your Oktoberfest hats, t-shirts and outfits. Your Chicken Dancing shoes. This event is suitable for all ages!!!

WHAT TO DO BEFORE HAND:  Print Ellen’s face from her WEBSITE and bring it.  Learn, Print and bring the Ellenized version of Roll out the Barrel (see below) We will be singing too!

As you heard first on 570 News, the drive in May started after a fan sent photos taken at last year’s parade to Ellen – a photo of a lion taken from the backside that, given the angle, made the tail appear as if it was a male’s private part.  The photo’s made it on to a segment of Ellen’s popular television show.
