Two day tech conference gets underway in Waterloo

Over 220 tech students have converged on the Waterloo Inn to meet the leaders of their fields.

The EpCon 2010 conference, happening today and tomorrow, brought in students from as far away as Carleton University to hear words of wisdom from industry experts from Microsoft, Google, Rogers, and more.

Opening keynote speaker, Mike Lee, Chief Strategy Officer from Rogers Ventures, tells 570 News his message to the students is that the future of telecom is bright, and this is an exciting time for technology.

Also, that innovation and entrepreneurship are always key.

Co-founder and CEO of socialDeck, a social network and mobile gaming company, encourages today’s students to put their rubber on the road and try to make it big with their great ideas.

Pamela Steer, a consultant with Technology Financial Executive, says she’s speaking at the conference to give students some practical advice on starting their own entrepreneurial venture.

Student delegates tells 570 News they’re hoping to hear the life lessons they won’t hear in their classrooms.

They also want to do some serious networking, and maybe even start the journey to that first great career.
