New skating rink opens in Waterloo

What a perfect day to open the Waterloo Public Square’s new skating rink: on the last full day of fall.
It’s just one of the highlights of an event being staged today from 2 until 5 this afternoon.
Festivities include music, carol singing and free cider, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus.
David Smith, Waterloo’s General Manager of Recreation Leisure Services tells 570 News the ice surface is about a third of the size of a regular indoor hockey rink and about 80 people should be able to skate on it comfortably at any given time.
He says the rink makes the public square a year-round attraction and will bring more traffic to the uptown.
