Farwell-4-Hire campaign releases official amount raised for cystic fibrosis in 2023

The results are in!

Mike Farwell has announced the amount of money raised for cystic fibrosis research through the Farwell4Hire campaign in 2023.

This year’s total surpassed the 2022 amount by approximately $30,000.

“I’m thrilled with the results,” said Farwell. “10 years in, we’re now more than $1.2 million dollars raised for cystic fibrosis research. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined we’d be talking about numbers like this.”

The Farwell4Hire campaign began this year April 27 with an event for the Grand Valley Construction Association and ended June 25 with a BBQ bash at The Lab Street Eats, marking almost two months of raising money for cystic fibrosis research.

About half of the money raised came from the 50/50 draw, in which Waterloo Region’s Paul Nash won over $108,000 on June 16.

Farwell explained what the $205,343 means for the cause.

“Children in our community are breathing better. It’s that simple, because the money that we have raised for research has gone into some terrific work. A lot of which is being done at hospitals right here in Canada and in fact, in Ontario. McMaster [Children’s Hospital] does great work, SickKids does great work. They’ve created these treatments and these medications that will literally improve the breathing of kids overnight when they get on these medications. So that’s what Waterloo Region has done for their neighbours.”

He added that he’s very grateful for the community’s support and that he doesn’t know how to thank them enough.
