By The Canadian Press

OTTAWA — A former top public health official has failed in her bid to block the release of an embarrassing forensic report.

The Supreme Court of Canada has refused to allow Dr. Kim Barker a chance to argue her case.

Barker was head of the Algoma Public Health Unit in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., when it hired an acting chief financial officer in 2013.

The man turned out to be a convicted fraudster who had an intimate relationship with Barker.

She has been fighting the release of a forensic report that delved into what occurred.

It’s not immediately clear when the report might now be released.

The Canadian Press first published this report on Dec. 19, 2019.
