Mudslide smashes house in central Mexico, killing 6 people

MEXICO CITY — A rain-soaked hillside collapsed onto a house in central Mexico, killing six people, including two children, authorities said Thursday.

The civil defence office in the city of Puebla said 11 other people suffered panic attacks because of the mudslide late Wednesday.

The slide occurred in Santo Tomas Chautla, a village on the outskirts of the city, which is the capital of Puebla state.

The army said soldiers helped dig out the house, which was reduced to splinters.

Inspectors went house to house in the same area Thursday to ensure that other buildings were not at risk of collapse.
