Derulo reaches out to K-pop with ‘Let’s Shut Up & Dance’

LOS ANGELES — Jason Derulo is simultaneously looking ahead, looking back and looking across the ocean for his new project.

The pop singer collaborates with K-pop acts from South Korea and China for his new single “Let’s Shut Up & Dance.”

Derulo tells The Associated Press that this kind of trans-Pacific song-and-dance collaboration should become the norm for artists in the future.

The song is also the first of four singles he plans to release in the coming months in tribute to his childhood hero Michael Jackson.

Derulo says that he understands it’s a sensitive time to be honouring Jackson as allegations of child molestation have remerged, but he’s focusing on the performer who is the reason he became a musician, not anyone’s personal life.
